Out of the LinkedIn’s 600 million users, 50% are monthly active users.  However, more than 70% of these users are from outside the US. After US (167 million+), India (64 million+), China (49 million+), Brazil (41 million+), and Great Britain (28 million+).

LinkedIn is a platform for Professional Careerists and Entrepreneur looking for important connections.  This article offers a two-side perspective on whether LinkedIn is a good platform for Startup businesses.

To a larger extent, LinkedIn is a good platform for Startup Entrepreneurs as explained below;

Content Marketing performs better on LinkedIn

Although LinkedIn is not one of the biggest social networks on the internet, it is so lucrative. This is because its userbase is full of knowledge-minded people like senior-level business professionals, decision-makers, and C-suite executives who are busy networking to find suitable connections, not browsing through the platform to waste time. In fact, 41% of millionaires and CEOs use LinkedIn.

Therefore, LinkedIn presents a platform where you can easily put out a word about business, and have access to these otherwise hard-to-reach people. Furthermore, LinkedIn provides tools for content marketers to create content, targeting a conscious audience. Whenever you create sensible contents about your brand, it is more likely that people are going to read it because they’re interested in knowing.

On platforms like Facebook and Twitter, people don’t just care about knowing and can easily up-scroll any content that intents to inform or teach. There is no doubt, content marketing is now one of the most effective digital marketing strategies. It is something which Startups must not overlook when fingerprinting their marketing plans.

Effective on Business to Business Marketing

LinkedIn is a place for formal Business Owners and Professionals. In fact, most popular brands have LinkedIn Pages. If your Startup Business offers services or products that target other businesses through B2B Model, then LinkedIn is a place for you.

A startup dealing in enterprise solutions like accounting software, Informatics systems, digital marketing or product promotion, can find LinkedIn as a good Platform for its business. This is because most of the audience on this platform are people who either care about business or their professional careers.

According to Oberlo, LinkedIn is popular not only among job seekers but also businesses, with more than 30 million companies listed on the platform in 2019. In fact, Four out of every five B2B marketers use LinkedIn, compared to 91 percent of B2B marketers who use Facebook. That puts it ahead of Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, which are used by 67 percent, 66 percent, and 54 percent of B2B marketers respectively.

Makes Hiring the necessary team easier

For startup looking for the most suitable team, LinkedIn is one of the perfect places to find talents. LinkedIn is, by far, regarded as the best consistent source of quality job candidates online, according to RiseSmart’s Kimberly Schneiderman.

About 95 percent of recruiters utilize LinkedIn as a major sourcing tool to find candidates to present to their client companies seeking top-tier talent

It is a multilingual platform

LinkedIn is a platform with over 70 languages spoken worldwide. This fact is really important if a startup has a goal of going global because it offers a diverse reach to almost all corners of the world.

One of the reasons which limits business success in certain geographic is language barrier. And LinkedIn has eliminated this hinderance by building a platform that could be accessed through most of the internationally spoken languages.

However, to a lesser extent, LinkedIn is not necessarily a good platform for Startup Entrepreneurs as explained below;

First, Although the platform is known for having people who are knowledge-conscious, these people don’t have time to stay on LinkedIn for a long time. In fact, people stay on the platform for at least 5 to 6 minutes on average. This time rate is not favorable for a startup that would like to employ a content marketing strategy to promote its products to potential audience.

Second, not all profiles on LinkedIn have what they say they have. There are millions of LinkedIn users with profiles filled with fake information especially fake academic qualifications, skills and work experience.

After all, creating a LinkedIn profile is easy and putting any information you want doesn’t require actual accreditation and validation.  For a startup, looking for a top-notch team through LinkedIn hiring mechanism, it would be incredibly difficult to find real people with actual skill set required

Thirdly, most LinkedIn Users are located in majorly a few countries like the United States, Britain, India and Brazil. For a Startup located in Africa and in the Middle East, LinkedIn is likely not to be a good place for it, at least in the short-run, especially if its business activities are geo-location sensitive.

In places like Africa, LinkedIn has not seriously picked up in the online community. Even those who have LinkedIn Profiles, rarely check their accounts.
